I love my laser class

Every month I teach a laser class at NYCResistor. People pay for a two hour class, but in reality, I stay until everyone in class has made something awesome and so the class always runs over by 4-12 hours. (I once stayed up all night with Mike Gee who was dead set on creating an awesome model of a tumbler lock out of clear acrylic... totally worth it.)

Pictured above is a really cool set of interlocking shapes for making objects that my student nykayaker designed today. Next class, it's going to be a requirement to take and upload pictures of the things folks make!

Next month's class is already half sold out. It's a blast and I am always excited to see what students come up with. If you've ever wanted to laugh maniacly and shout "FIRE THE LAZZZOR!" then this class is for you. Besides being awesome, it's also training which allows you to rent time on the laser in the future.

how can a laser cut transparent material like clear acrylic? doesn't it go right through it without heating it much?

It's a UV laser and UV doesn't pass through clear acrylic, kinda like sunglasses.
