In 2002 I was obsessively drawing. There was an event in Seattle called 30 in 30 and it was 30 artists each doing 30 artworks on 8×10 canvases and selling them for $30 each. It took place in a run down building full of artists and the walls of this floor of the building were solidly full of art. The first year I bought an amazing painting of a cat looking right at you. The following two years I participated. I’m pretty sure this is 2002 and I’m writing with ink. I’m using the ink eye dropper to draw on the canvas and adding color with other ink.
A word about handwriting. I had absolutely horrible handwriting until I got my first teaching gig teaching 1st and 2nd graders and had to teach handwriting. I formalized my “teacher” handwriting at that time, viewable in this artwork.
This practice of drawing and making notes about what I was thinking about as I draw became a regular thing for me.
